A police officer works in his neighborhood station, but mainly in a certain part of the city, called sector which has been assigned to him. They work by foot, in a police cars or even on bikes.

To become a police officer in Quebec, you have to go through a long academic and physical process. First, after graduating from high school, you must have high marks and pass rigorous physical tests in order to be accepted into a Police Technology program. These programs are very restricted and are not given in numerous colleges. Once at the college level, you must follow the program for a minimum of 3 years. Once all of your courses are done, you must spend 3 months at the National Police Academy where the vast majority of the practical work will be shown to the future police officer.

In Quebec, the salary of a police officer varies immensely depending on his experience. It varies between $26.50 per hour and $56.80 per hour. The average salary is $45.41 per hour.

As for additional training, police officers must follow rigorous courses in firearms and shooting as well as in driving emergency vehicles.


What are the dangers of being police officer?
